Jafar Gholi Khan graduated from Dār-ōl-fonun academy as an engineer. While his father, Reza Gholi Khan was the superintendent of Dār-ōl-fonun, he became the head of the library there. By the year 1302 H. he became the minister of science and acquired the title – Nayer Al Molk-. He was also the head of Dār-ōl-fonun after his father for 33 years.
This painting, which has been in possession of the Hedayat family, is one of the most distinguished work by Jafar the painter. Nayer Al Molk is wearing a full formal uniform with the green robe of honor on his shoulder, and important medals, containing the highest-grade medal of the “Portrait of His Majesty” which is adorned with diamonds, hanging on his neck.
The application of gold as the main color in the painting, alongside the execution of the lively face, has made the portrait quite impressive. Jafar the painter, has been commissioned to execute several paintings of the Hedayat family members.
