Description
Mehdi Gholi-Hedayat was the grandson of Reza Gholi Khan (Lāleh), the patriarch of the Hedayat family. He was born in 1280 H and at the age of 14 accompanying his older brother Sani Al-Dowleh, left Iran for Germany to continue his studies. When he returned back home, he was introduced to Naser Al-din-Shah and received the title: Mokhber-Al-Saltaneh. His main governmental career which started in 1324 H, was simultaneous with the turbulent years of the constitutional movement. He played an important role in the acquisition of the “Order of constitution” from Mozaffar-Aldin Shah. That was a great victory for the people and the liberal elite of Iran.
Mokhber-Al-Saltaneh, several times was the governor, minister and representative of the people at the parliament. At last, he was appointed as the prime-minister by Reza-shah Pahlavi, that lasted more than 6 years. He died at the age of 95 in 1375 H.
Mokhber-Al-Saltaneh compiled several books of his memories and the historical events of his life during the reigns of 5 kings. The most popular book he wrote is: “the memories and the dangers”.
In this painting, Mokhber-Al-Saltaneh in the last years of his life, wearing a visored hat (Pahlavi-hat) appears in the costume that was in the style of Pahlavi period. The execution of the face, naturally reflects his experienced character.
