Prince Emamgholi Mirza
Prince Emamgholi Mirza-(Emad-Al-Dowleh)- 1230-1294 H
Water color
16 × 24 CM
Description
This water color portrait of Emamgholi Mirza is the work of Yahya, son of Abolhasan-Ghaffari- (Sani-Al-Molk), the famous court-painter of Mohammad Shah and Naser-Aldin Shah period.
Sani-Al-Molk’s grandfather, Abolhasan-Mostowfi, was also a great painter of the Zand period. He is known as “Abolhasan-the first”.
Yahya’s reputed name, in the field of painting, was “Abolhasan the third”, referring to his father’s and his ancestor’s name: Abolhasan.
Yahya’s model of executing this painting has been exactly similar to his father’s work character, which dated 1274 H, and now is in the possession of the British Library.
Perhaps, he meant to demonstrate his ability in painting and prove that he was a true master just like his father.
The signature inscribed in a medallion, on the upper right side of the painting, reads: “The work of the servant of the court, Yahya in the year 1242.”
