Description

This painting depicts the crown-Prince Abbas Mirza in his childhood, seated on an exquisite rug, with all the accessories that were usually displayed in such imperial portraiture of the early Qajar period.
All these ornaments executed on the delightful brownish color of the close-fitting garment, reflect a glittering look, and also a sense of richness and glory.
The main purpose of commissioning such paintings of the Shah and his numerous sons was to create an awe, and also to display the splendor of the imperial court. Many such paintings were sent to courts in different countries, or placed on the walls of palaces.
The attractive childish face and the hair-style, together with the extravagant use of jewelry that are elaborately executed, suggest that it is most probably the work of Miraza-Baba, the distinguished painter of Fath-Ali Shah’s court.
